East Granby is a rural town with historic roots in agriculture, copper mining and tobacco farming. Employment, shopping and cultural attractions are in neighboring towns and cities like Hartford and Springfield.
Older neighborhoods and new subdivisions on old farmland feature homes in many styles and price ranges, from early colonials and farmhouses, to modern designs and condominium complexes.
East Granby has one of the smallest school systems in Connecticut. Facilities include two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.
There are ample opportunities for those who like to play outside. Tennis, soccer, gymnastics, basketball and softball are available for youth and adults, and spectators may watch canoe and kayak races on the rapids of the Farmington River. Granbrook Park provides a pleasant atmosphere for nature lovers, and the Metacomet Trail offers beautiful views of the Farmington River Valley.
Old New-Gate Prison and Copper Mine is one of Connecticut’s most popular state parks. The prison housed inmates from Revolutionary War times to 1827, and the copper mine is America's oldest. |
