The quaint town of Granby offers easy travel to employment, cultural and sporting events and major shopping malls in Hartford and Springfield, both about a 20-minute drive.
Granby's housing stock is primarily older colonials and single-family homes of traditional designs, although there are also new constructions and condominiums. A few family-owned farms and orchards still operate along winding back roads. There also are several small businesses.
Granby’s public school system, which educates about 2,200 students, provides a full range of academic programs, as well as evening classes for adults.
The 3,400-acre McLean Game Refuge, shaped by glaciers, offers outdoor activities like nature study, hiking, cross-country skiing and picnicking. Enders State Forest has a network of hiking trails to six waterfalls. Two branches of the Salmon Brook, a 72-mile stream and major tributary of the Farmington River, flow through town. Holcomb Farm offers a children's program, crafts programs, and an extensive trail system for hiking, horsebackriding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. The Granby Land Trust works to preserve Granby's Natural Heritage through the conservation of its scenic vistas, open space corridors, wildlife habitat, ecologically sensitive areas, and agricultural land... enjoy the extensive trail system: Goddard Preserve, Mary Edwards Land Trust, and the Western Barndoor Hills Preserve.
Recreation facilities include tennis courts, a playground, ball fields, a swimming pond , a summer day camp and a youth center. An exciting Memorial Day road race attracts runners and spectators from Granby and neighboring towns.
